Brewers, Cubs Provide Social Media Entertainment

During a baseball game, most of the drama usually unfolds while the teams battle it out on the field. Whether it is a come from behind victory, the home run, a stellar pitching performance or a great defensive play. Consumers are catching the moment as it happens. When the teams are not playing, fans can stay in touch with what their favorite team by following them on social media. Fans usually follow their teams social channels to see highlights from the previous days game or get the lineup for next game. In reality, it is what teams do on social between those posts that keeps fans engaged and following.

The Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs have a heated rivalry not only on the field, and between their fans, but now on social media too.

During the offseason, the Milwaukee Brewers had a pre-sale for tickets for the Cubs series aimed at keeps Cubs fans out of Miller Park. The Brewers posted the below tweet about the pre-sale that was only open to Wisconsin residents and parodied the Cubs famous, ‘Go Cubs Go’ song that they play after every game they win.

In true rivalry fashion the Cubs responded with a tweet of their own:

When it comes to having some fun on Social Media and bringing the rivalry online between the teams, the Brewers have certainly been pushing the envelope. The Midwest always has questionable weather during the first month of the baseball season, and this year was no different. The Brewers posted the below tweet and tagged their rivals, the Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, among other Midwest teams the Detroit Tigers, Cleveland Indians, Minnesota Twins and Kansas City Royals.

Needless to say, the  Chicago Cubs marketing department did not forget about the Brewers burns during the offseason and during the season. Any good marketing efforts became great and are amplified when your supports and sponsors get in on the action. That is exactly what the Brewers television partner Fox Sports Wisconsin did when tweeting out before the Brewers / Cubs 4 game series earlier this year.

After the Cubs let the players do the talking on the field, their marketing department dropped the mic with one simple tweet:

No matter what happens on the field, the Brewers marketing department is doing everything they can to keep the rivalry alive in social media. Professional sports organizations that can have some fun with their competition in social media, no matter the outcome on the field, are still winning. We can be certain that this will not be the last time these two team banter through social media. This is just providing fans with another reason to follow their team online.
