My Favorite 2018 Super Bowl Commercials

Well the big game is now over and the Philadelphia Eagles beat the New England Patriots. Not only was it a great football game for sports enthusiasts to watch, the Super Bowl commercials where also a step up from last year. For all of us who were interested in the commercials had a lot to talk about. It’s the one time a year, everyone watching discusses the ads live and the next day without know budget, client constraints, timeline or strategy. With this being one of the single biggest sporting events of the year, which receives massive viewership, it also makes it one of the top marketing opportunities for a variety of brands. At least brands that are willing to spending more than $5 million on a 30-second TV commercial. Below are my favorite commercials from the big game.

Some of the commercials were absolutely brilliant and left us laughing, while others touched on our emotions, then there were the ones that had us wondering what the brand / product even was. A Super Bowl commercial could make or break the career of the creative director working on it. Either way, working on a commercial of that magnitude is probably one of the greatest rushes of their career and an amazing experience.

Without further ado, here are my top 3 commercials from the Big Game.

Amazon – ‘Alexa Loses Her Voice’

This was by far my favorite commercial. I saw it before it aired during the game and referenced it in my post yesterday about commercials to watch for. This commercial had me laughing, and the way that they have the actors respond as Alexa is the exact way that we all wish Alexa would respond on a daily basis. It was the top ad in my book.

NFL – ‘Touchdowns to Come’

This was a hit for me. In a game that featured two of the New York Giants rivals, the Giants won the internet after this ad aired. Featuring Eli Manning and Odell Beckham, this ad brought back nostalgia with the song from Dirty Dancing. Eli and Odell showed of their dances moves and ending with Eli lifting Odell up into the air. Simply awesome.

Budweiser – ‘Stand by You’

This year’s Budweiser commercial pulled at my emotions. Just the Mass Mutual add did before the game. Their showcased how they changed a brewery to a water distribution facility to deliver water to hurricane disaster areas. In a time when we need more humanity, Budweiser how each of us can stand by each other and help one another. For me it showed how great America is.

Additional mention for Tide. Wow, they had numerous commercials and came out strong and winning the ad game early on. With all the publicity lately with people eating Tide pods, they turned the conversation on Social Media during the game and after from Tide pods to clean cloths. The theme of their campaign mimic stereotypical ads from genres across the board to promote stainless and clean cloths. Each commercial was well done.
