Super Bowl Commercials to Watch For

Super Bowl LII is finally here. Sports enthusiasts are closer to seeing the Philadelphia Eagles square off versus the New England Patriots for the right to take home the Vince Lombardi Trophy. For advertisers and marketers, the big day has finally arrived where their creativity will be showcased for the world to see. The massive amount of people who will be viewing the big game, makes it one of the biggest marketing opportunities for brands. It is the one day a year that consumers actually look forward to seeing the commercials, and they even talk about them the next day. Well, if you are like my wife, you are probably looking forward to the Justin Timberlake halftime show more than anything.

Advertising during the biggest sporting event of the year is a competition for the biggest brands. Most Americans are tuning into watch the commercials over the game any way. Plus, many celebrities will be making an appearance during one commercial or another. A TV commercial appearing during the big game this Sunday, on average for a 30 second spot, will cost more than 5 million dollars.

Here are my 3 commercials to watch for during the big game today.

Amazon – ‘Did Alexa Lose Her Voice?’

If you have not already done so, ask your Alexa who will win the Super Bowl. She throws some hard shade at the New England Patriots as she is flying with the Eagles. Then ask her why Jimmy Garoppolo crossed the road and her response is just as ice cold. Amazon’s premise for their commercial is the company’s efforts to find a replacement if Alexa ever lost her voice. The ad features the company’s founder and CEO, Jeff Bezos, followed by plenty of star power including Gordon Ramsey, Rebel Wilson and Anthony Hopkins. I have definitely found this ad funny and enjoyed it.

Budweiser – ‘Stand by You’

I am a sucker for the Budweiser commercials every year. They have a huge portfolio of creative, hilarious and emotional ads during the big game. This year will be no different. Budweiser will pull at the heartstrings once again, with the ad being focused on disaster relief. Budweiser’s commercial shows a brewery being transformed into a water-canning facility and trucks delivering water to disaster affected areas, Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico, and California. All the way the song, ‘Stand By Me’ is playing throughout the commercial.

Pepsi – ‘This Is The Pepsi’

Pepsi’s commercial is going to the past and bridging the generational gap by demonstrating how it has been passed down from your grandparents, to your parents and now to you. The commercial features several generations of Pepsi branding. It also littered with past Pepsi endorsers and is star studded including cameos from Cindy Crawford, Britney Spears, Jeff Gordon and Michael Jackson.

Here is one more commercial because my son liked this one and because the robots are coming.

Sprint – ‘Robots – the math says switch to Sprint’

Sprint’s commercial features a very brief appearance by the ‘can you hear me now’ guy from the Verizon commercials. The commercial focuses on robots doing the analytical work and explaining why switching to Sprint is the smart choice according the math data. The Robots then become very mean and taunt their human trainer who is working with them.

These are the commercials I feel viewers should keep an eye out for during the game. This week I will write about which commercial was my favorite commercial during the big game. Enjoy the commercials, halftime show, and the game. Happy Super Sunday!
